The world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 took place, today in London. This event marks the final premiere for the Harry Potter series, as Deathly Hallows Part 2 will wrap up the record-breaking film franchise, that has enchanted millions for over 10 years.
8,000 fans poured into Trafalgar Square in London to watch the cast and crew of the film make their debut on the red carpet, which was three quarters of a mile long. Among the crowd was Scott Beaudet who flew halfway across the world, from Vancouver, British Columbia to see the red carpet premiere. Beaudet was the first person to be let into the red carpet area at Trafalgar Sqaure, and camped out for 8 nights.
The entire premiere was streamed live on Livestream.com, for nearly 4 hours, and at one point reached over 20,000 viewers.
The star-studded premiere was coined "very, very emotional" by author of the series, J.K. Rowling. Cast members Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint as well as dozens of other cast members signed autographs, met fans, answered questions and posed on the red carpet before heading over to Leicester Square, where the film was screened.
We tuned into the live-stream, and we were crying our eyes out.
The 7 films in the franchise have earned over $6.3 billion in global sales so far, with the total gross expected to exceed $7 billion with the 8th film's release. All 7 films appear on the list of 30 highest-grossing films of all time. The Harry Potter franchise is the highest-earning film franchise of all time, with just seven films - earning more money than the 22 James Bond films and the 6 Star Wars films. The Harry Potter films have so far earned nearly 4x the amount the Twilight series has.
Potter fans haven't seen the last of the stars, though, because after the Harry Potter series, Daniel Radcliffe will star in The Woman in Black, a remake of the 1989 film, scheduled to be released early 2012. Emma Watson will star in My Week with Marilyn, scheduled to be released in November 2011, as well as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, scheduled to be released in 2012. Rupert Grint will star in Comrade, scheduled to be released in 2012.
The new film will be the first to be released in 3D. It is scheduled to hit theatres in Canada and U.S., next Friday.
"It's the end of an era."
